Data compilation began in January 2019. As of 28 March 2025, we recorded 3724 cases of Prisoners of Conscience(POC). Of these, 1477 were serving prison sentences; 231 were detained(pre-trial), and 1889 were released during this period of time.
For the purpose of this database, “prisoners of conscience” (POC) refers to persons deprived of their liberty (detained, imprisoned, or disappeared) for peacefully exercising or defending human rights.
