Data compilation began in January 2019. As of 12 May 2024, we recorded 3324 cases of Prisoners of Conscience(POC). Of these, 1478 were serving prison sentences; 228 were detained(pre-trial), and 1494 were released during this period of time.
For the purpose of this database, “prisoners of conscience” (POC) refers to persons deprived of their liberty (detained, imprisoned, or disappeared) for peacefully exercising or defending human rights.
