Data compilation began in January 2019. As of 20 June 2026, we recorded 4273 cases of Prisoners of Conscience(POC). Of these, 1375 were serving prison sentences; 181 were detained(pre-trial), and 2542 were released during this period of time.
For the purpose of this database, “prisoners of conscience” (POC) refers to persons deprived of their liberty (detained, imprisoned, or disappeared) for peacefully exercising or defending human rights.
