Data compilation began in January 2019. As of 21 July 2026, we recorded 4306 cases of Prisoners of Conscience(POC). Of these, 1379 were serving prison sentences; 173 were detained(pre-trial), and 2580 were released during this period of time.
For the purpose of this database, “prisoners of conscience” (POC) refers to persons deprived of their liberty (detained, imprisoned, or disappeared) for peacefully exercising or defending human rights.
