Data compilation began in January 2019. As of 19 June 2026, we recorded 4270 cases of Prisoners of Conscience(POC). Of these, 1372 were serving prison sentences; 188 were detained(pre-trial), and 2535 were released during this period of time.
For the purpose of this database, “prisoners of conscience” (POC) refers to persons deprived of their liberty (detained, imprisoned, or disappeared) for peacefully exercising or defending human rights.
