Data compilation began in January 2019. As of 14 June 2026, we recorded 4261 cases of Prisoners of Conscience(POC). Of these, 1361 were serving prison sentences; 222 were detained(pre-trial), and 2524 were released during this period of time.
For the purpose of this database, “prisoners of conscience” (POC) refers to persons deprived of their liberty (detained, imprisoned, or disappeared) for peacefully exercising or defending human rights.
