Data compilation began in January 2019. As of 12 August 2026, we recorded 4314 cases of Prisoners of Conscience(POC). Of these, 1333 were serving prison sentences; 178 were detained(pre-trial), and 2629 were released during this period of time.
For the purpose of this database, “prisoners of conscience” (POC) refers to persons deprived of their liberty (detained, imprisoned, or disappeared) for peacefully exercising or defending human rights.
