Data compilation began in January 2019. As of 15 October 2025, we recorded 3988 cases of Prisoners of Conscience(POC). Of these, 1455 were serving prison sentences; 235 were detained(pre-trial), and 2170 were released during this period of time.
For the purpose of this database, “prisoners of conscience” (POC) refers to persons deprived of their liberty (detained, imprisoned, or disappeared) for peacefully exercising or defending human rights.
