Jiang Liyu, female, from Yun County, Shiyan City, Hubei Province, formerly worked as a receptionist at an educational institution in Beijing; she is a Falun Gong practitioner.

On the evening of May 12, 2017, Jiang Liyu and other Falun Gong practitioners were arrested while posting flyers on the streets of Beijing exposing the “Tiananmen Square self-immolation hoax.” She was detained at the Shijingshan Branch Detention Center.

In July 2018, she was sentenced to four years in prison by the Shijingshan District Court; in September of the same year, the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court upheld the original sentence on appeal. The specific charges are unknown; her sentence is scheduled to end on May 11, 2021.

Around March 2019, she was transferred from Beijing to serve her sentence in Ward 5 of Hankou Prison in Hubei Province. Since then, the lawyer hired by Jiang Liyu’s family has been unable to meet with her.
