Data compilation began in January 2019. As of 18 April 2025, we recorded 3768 cases of Prisoners of Conscience(POC). Of these, 1497 were serving prison sentences; 222 were detained(pre-trial), and 1922 were released during this period of time.
For the purpose of this database, “prisoners of conscience” (POC) refers to persons deprived of their liberty (detained, imprisoned, or disappeared) for peacefully exercising or defending human rights.
